it's odd having no memories, or very few, of being a little kid. all those early happenings that form one's life remain distant from the conscious mind. i have only faint images of the wolves.

i remember my friend tony telling me about him and his brother both getting a dollar from their dad. they were to hang onto it until a good time came to spend it. easter. they were catholic. most of the italians on our street were catholic. we can give it to the pope. fuck me. are you mad. 100% of your funds on an institution you visit twice a year. 10% max. but there was no way out for tony. there was no chance he'd listen to reason.

there's a scene in not such a good movie about the legend of king arthur. lancelot tells of watching his family burn in the church. it made me think i'd seen the same thing. except you had no idea you were burning ever so slowly.

maybe it doesn't matter so much. those who believe, see it different. as long as you don't get militant about it, oh well. i believe this is heaven. life. it is something that happens. it's hard. it's real.

the details of the life of jesus, whether or not he hung on a cross or not, or even was, does not matter. the one important part of the story was that he walked into the synagogue as a youth and told them, the priests, that they were wrong. civil disobedience. your laws are obsolete. you are obsolete. the synagogue is a den of thieves. and i did the same with the church.

it didn't sit well. but it gave me my direction. i ain't headed for a cross. there are many who believe life is here and now. that death isn't for us to know other than it is. i can't imagine it. we'll see. i saw grampy.
