A story without a protagonist isn't any kind of adventure. The character of Moses, Paul, the mule is the quantum push that forces someone to jump out of their inaction and go balls out with no regard for his own balls. Makes a man of a man. Or a woman of a woman. Makes us fit for the next problem.
