john rah

dancing to his own music


john rah started his music carrier like many musicians in the kitchen. pots and wooden spoons.

at age six he learn recorder in school.

at age 8 john started piano lessons and played until the end of high school.

at age 13 john fell in love with the trumpet and played every day in high school with five years of stage band and big band early mornings and after school. private trumpet lessons outside of school and a half a year in a drum and bugle core concentrating on breathing technique.

at age 19 he decided against a professional trumpet carrier in exchange for architecture.

at age 20 john discovered rock 'n' roll, bought a bass guitar, went to the mountains, lost his belief in a normal life and formed a basement band, the buzzarts. they broke up before they got it together. he sold his bass guitar and went six string.

at age 26 his guitar teacher told him to stop taking lessons and find his own way. that was the end of note reading. john wanted to improvise. he spent hours of active listening and playing most everyday to learn how to feel.

at age 36 after 16 years of blues scales, john rah took up his guitar like a boy in the ghetto takes up basketball looking for a way out. or in. 3 to 8 hours a day of playing put him in the league with stevie ray vaughan and other lovers of guitar.

at age 40 john found his own trance in music. he had become a master of improvisation.

for his first music event, john started his own studio, john rah kitchen studio, john made 36 cds to explore his music talent and improvisation skills. dark stage theater.

john's dream is like any bad movie: get the band together for world tour.


john had to stop playing because of too much playing. and computer slavery.

so john rah taught himself to sing and write songs and play rhythm guitar.

which lead to john's first cd of songs, "sick of amerika". it wasn't really a flop. it was just a test to hear how people reacted. learn to sing was the general reaction. but they liked his guitar.

an agent from brasil gave him the secret he had been looking for 30 years. to find his voice.

inspiration from a creature john refers to as an angel lead to the quick recording of, "make many more random references". it was more widely accepted.

john is working on his next cd. "politikal korrekt". unless someone shoots him, it will be followed by the one after that. if he is recording it in his kitchen studio, it will be free from someone somewhere. ask your friend in germany.
